Pedicled Anterolateral Thigh Flap as a Cover for Reconstruction of Post Fournier’s Gangrene Scrotal Defects

Abstract

BACKGROUNDFournier's gangrene is an acute and potentially lethal necrotizing fasciitis that involves the scrotum and perineum. This disease can result in the extensive loss of skin and soft tissues of the perineoscrotal area with exposure of the testes. To reconstruct the large scrotal and perineal defects remains a surgical challenge. Various techniques have been described for the reconstruction of these defects such as split thickness grafts, muscle flap (ex: gracilis muscle) and fasciocutaneous flaps, (ex: pudendal), perineal flap, deep inferior epigastric perforator flap, anteromedial thigh flap and anterolateral thigh flap. We intend to study the results of Pedicled Anterolateral Thigh Flap procedure in patients with scrotal defect following Fournier's gangrene.
