PeerfactSim.KOM: Take it back to the streets

Abstract: Mobile peer-to-peer networks, utilizing ad hoc communication between hand-held communication devices, serve as an alternative to cellular networks for the deployment of applications. To evaluate a new communication mechanism in mobile peer-to-peer network, simulations constitute a useful and frequently applied evaluation technique. Besides initial simulations on plain and empty maps, it is crucial to evaluate if and how the developed communication mechanism performs in the envisioned scenarios dealing with obs… Show more

“…4b). Stages and other relevant points of interest (e.g., food booths) are modeled as attraction areas, allowing us to rely on a modified version of the SLAW movement model [14,30]. In our evaluation scenario, we vary the probability that a node selects a new attraction area and starts moving towards it, mimicking real-world behavior during and after a concert (c.f.…”

“…Along these paths groups of nodes arrive, move along the paths, and subsequently leave the railway station either by train or by one of the exits. For the simulative evaluation comprising the model of the environment and the user mobility, we rely on PeerfactSim.KOM [15] that comprises a model from ns-3 [16] of the IEEE 802.11g standard to simulate the Wi-Fi ad hoc communication between the devices. Three hours of operation are simulated where the first hour is used to reach a steady state of the simulated scenario, while measurements are taken during the remaining two hours.…”
