Perceived stigma among discharged patients of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China: A latent profile analysis

Abstract: BackgroundPerceived stigma has greatly influenced the life quality of the COVID-19 patients who recovered and were discharged (RD hereafter). It is essential to understand COVID-19 stigma of RD and its related risk factors. The current study aims to identify the characteristics of perceived COVID-19 stigma in RD using latent profile analysis (LPA), to explore its psycho-social influencing factors, and to determine the cut-off point of the stigma scale using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis.Meth… Show more

“…We used LPA to identify traits of neglect in older adult care workers. Despite the possible arbitrariness of LPA in determining the number of class members due to its semi-subjective properties, its misclassification rate is relatively low, and it can produce more reasonable results compared with those of other classification approaches ( 20 ). We used Mplus v8.3 to identify the number of distinct care worker subtypes, the relative size of each subtype, and the distribution of characteristics within each subtype ( 15 ).…”

“…Third, the experiences of participants and families being maligned were de ned as those who answered "yes" to the question "Have you or your family ever been maligned by someone as a result of your infection status?". The variables associated with both outcome variables and exposure variables were used as covariates: sex (male, female, others) 9,27 , age group (20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, ≥ 90) 9,28-30 , level of education (junior high school, high school, vocational school or junior college, university, and postgraduate school) 9,31,32 , job status (employed and unemployed) 28,31,33 , Cohabitant status (living alone and living together) 9,30 , duration after infection 5,34 , hospitalization status at infection (hospitalized and not hospitalized) 3,35 . Sex was later converted to male and others.…”

“…Some studies conducted in Asian countries have identi ed that COVID-19 survivors who perceived stigma, including discrimination, were more likely to experience psychological stress. 9 This included 51.1% of the participants in a Chinese study, 9 and 43.3% of participants in a Japanese study 10 . A systematic review of the general population indicates that discrimination affects psychological distress, especially among disadvantaged groups 11 .…”

“…Additionally, regression mixture model (RMM) is a statistical model that could involve covariates as predictors for LPA, which could help to further determine the influencing factors of the characteristics identified by LPA (Lamont et al., 2016). RMM has been employed in the analysis of stigma in certain populations (Loch et al., 2014; Wu et al., 2023). The specific objectives of current study are to identify the characteristics of anticipated HIV stigma in MSM using LPA; to explore the psychosocial influencing factors of anticipated HIV stigma in MSM using RMM based on the result of LPA; and to determine the cut‐off point of the AHSQ using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis for further evaluation and application, which may help healthcare professions and policymakers to deal with the anticipated stigma among MSM effectively.…”
