“…57 Questions on whether juvenile MS is a true variant of rheumatic MS remain to be answered. Several researchers have reported similar 58 or even better 59,60 success rates for PBMV in children with MS. Severe congenital MS is a rare mitral valve deformity with several anatomic subtypes: typical, supramitral mitral ring, parachute mitral valve, and double-orifice mitral valve.…”

“…One previous report from our hospital studied 59 children, age range 8-17 years, with MS who underwent PTMC during 1995-1998 [1]. Similarly, in a study from India, 107 children age 10-18 years with rheumatic MS underwent PTMC with excellent results [10]. On echocardiography, patients with rheumatic MS have thickened leaflets and commissural/chordal fusion resulting in the typical hockey-stick appearance of the anterior mitral leaflet.…”

“…Although in children and adolescents with rheumatic mitral stenosis the immediate haemodynamic effects of MBV have been adequately documented, [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] there are few reports regarding the long term results of MBV in this age group. 9 10 The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immediate and long term (up to 13 years) results of MBV in patients 20 years old or younger and compare these results to those obtained in the adult population.…”
