“…Whereas historiographies of Latin-American music in Finland have tended to neglect the cross-pollination of music in the Americas, this study demonstrates the significance that the musical dialogue between the Spanish Caribbean and the U.S. has even as the music travels outside Spanish speaking communities. Following Auslander's (2004) methodology, I have analysed the "performance persona" of Afro-Cuban DJ Norlan with emphasis on the genre conventions and socio-cultural norms that inform his performances and influence the music's reception among audiences.…”
