The performance of multihop detect‐and‐forward relaying system is analyzed over fluctuating two‐ray fading channels for 28 GHz millimeter wave communications. Exact closed‐form expressions for outage probability and average symbol error rate of various modulation schemes over nonidentically distributed fluctuating two‐ray fading channels have been obtained. The derived expressions are given in terms of the Lauricella hypergeometric functions normalΦ2false(nfalse)false(·false) and FDfalse(nfalse)false(·false). Moreover, the derived expressions also accommodate several others reported results in the literature for two‐wave diffuse power, Rician, Rician shadowed, Nakagami‐m, and Hoyt fading channels. Asymptotic outage probability and average symbol error rate expressions are also derived, which provide useful insights on the factors governing the performance of the considered system. The numerical results have been verified with Monte‐Carlo simulation results.

Abstract-We derive the outage probability of a multi-source multi-relay transmission system, where all the links experience κ-µ fading variations. The source-relay links are assumed to be nonorthogonal multiple access channels (MACs). Two transmission schemes are considered for relay-destination transmission, i.e., non-orthogonal maximum ratio transmission (MRT) and orthogonal transmission with joint-decoding (JD) at the destination. The outage probability is formulated by taking into consideration the different decoding results at the relays. It is found that, with or without the impact of line-of-sight (LOS) component or the number of multipath clusters in channels, the outage performance of the system with JD is superior to that with MRT. Furthermore, we investigate the impact of the geometric gain based relay location and power allocation for relays on the performance.

Performance of dual-hop decode-and-forward relay system with selectioncombining receiver is analyzed over Rice fading channels. The following closed-form expressions of performance metrics are derived: moment generating function for selection-combining receiver output signal-to-noise ratio, exact average bit error rate of noncoherent modulations, approximate average symbol error rate for coherent modulations, and outage probability. We also obtain simple asymptotic expressions for moment generating function, exact average bit error rate, average symbol error rate, and outage probability, which are useful to characterize the diversity order and the coding gain. The optimal power allocation analysis suggests that the optimal power allocation factor is independent of total signal-to-noise ratio and source-to-destination link fading parameters. The accuracy of the obtained analytical expressions are supported by computer simulation results. KEYWORDS average bit error rate, average symbol error rate, decode and forward, diversity order, dual-hop, moment-generating function, outage probability, relay, Rice fading 1 | INTRODUCTION Device-to-device (D2D) cooperative communication can enrich fifth-generation wireless communication systems through improvement on energy efficiency and extension of coverage area. 1 Currently, some wireless communication systems such as WiFi Direct and Bluetooth have shown interest for the implementation of either single-or dual-hop communication. Three-node dual-hop D2D communication system model can be an appropriate model for D2D cooperative communications. In addition, Zigbee, Long Term Evolution-Advanced, and Wireless Gigabit have shown sound interest for D2D communications too. 2Wireless communication systems experience small-scale fading. A number of fading distributions have been proposed in literature, which model the fading channels, and have been found to be effective in the design of receivers in fading channels. Recently, the small-scale fading statistics obtained from a 28 GHz outdoor measurement campaign suggests that Rician fading model is more appropriate than the Rayleigh fading model, even in non-line-of-sight environments. 3 The Rice distribution is a generic distribution for modeling wireless propagation scenarios with a strong line-of-sight component and many random weaker components, which includes Rayleigh distribution as the special case. Receivers suggested for fading channel are diversity combining receivers such as maximal ratio combining (MRC), equal gain combining, and selection combining (SC) are effective to counter the impact of fading, among which SC is the simplest form.
