Performance Analysis of Hyperledger Fabric Platforms

Abstract: Blockchain is a key technology that has the potential to decentralize the way we store, share, and manage information and data. One of the more recent blockchain platforms that has emerged is Hyperledger Fabric, an open source, permissioned blockchain that was introduced by IBM, first as Hyperledger Fabric v0.6, and then more recently, in 2017, IBM released Hyperledger Fabric v1.0. Although there are many blockchain platforms, there is no clear methodology for evaluating and assessing the different blockchain … Show more

“…For consistency and simplicity, we call validators "peers" in the remaining of this paper. LibraBFT is designed for strong scalability while other consortium blockchains like Hyperledger Fabric v0.6 may only support less than 30 peers [15]. The early prototypes of LibraBFT also showed a promising performance in throughput and latency which will support large scale applications with efficiency requirement.…”

“…The MSP is a set of encryption mechanisms and protocols for issuing and verifying certificates and identities in the blockchain, it is a pluggable interface. The CA is used to generate certificates and secret keys, initialize the MSP, and the order node acts as a proxy in the network, used to distribute data [31]. Fig.…”

“…Fifth, after all factors are included and a final set of DLT design candidates is generated, we conduct a data collection to use the developed operationalizations and to calculate the corresponding metrics. For our example, we gathered data on transaction latency and transactions per second for every DLT design out of the set of DLT design candidates from monitoring websites (e.g., [39]) and existing studies (e.g., [17,40]) to calculate the values for consistency (S2) and throughput (P3).…”
