Performance Analysis of Multistream Receive Spatial Modulation in the MIMO Broadcast Channel

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, Multi-Stream Receive-Spatial Modulation (MSR-SM) for application to the Multiple-Input MultipleOutput (MIMO) broadcast channel is introduced and studied. MSR-SM is a closed-loop transmission scheme, which applies the concept of multi-stream space modulation at the receiver side. An accurate mathematical framework for the evaluation of the Bit Error Rate (BER) is proposed. In addition, the diversity order and coding gain of the new architecture are derived. Note that the proposed analyti… Show more

“…In this case, the SMLD of (21) converges the simplified SMLD of (23). In Section V, we will compare the performance achieved by (21) and (23), to show that the error performance achieved by the detector of (23) is in general worse than that achieved by the detector of (21).…”

“…Based on the principles of PSM, different PSM schemes have been proposed and investigated, and some of them are referred to as the receive spatial modulation (RSM) [21][22][23][24][25]. In more detail, by introducing the RSM to the multi-user MIMO, the authors of [21] have proposed and investigated a multistream RSM scheme. With the aid of the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) approximation, the asymptotic error performance of the multistream RSM systems has been analyzed in [22], where both small-and largescale fading are taken into account.…”

“…Therefore, IM techniques can be transplanted to the receiver side. By selecting the active receive antenna indices, precoding-aided SM (PSM) has been proposed by Stavridis et al (2016). Different from SM/G-SM, the detection of the constellation symbols at different antennas can be performed in a parallel manner, therefore significantly reducing the receiver complexity especially when multiple antennas are activated.…”

“…In [20], the GPSM concept had been extended to the multiuser/multi-stream scenario, where both accurate BER expressions and the achievable diversity gains were revealed. In [21], low-complexity receive antenna subset selection was proposed in order to extend the original GPSM concept from low user-loaded MIMO settings to rank-deficient MIMO settings, complemented by a range of further improvements.…”
