Performance Assessment and Economic Analysis of a Gas-Fueled Islanded Microgrid—A Malaysian Case Study

Abstract: In this study, the performance of an islanded gas turbine power generation system in Malaysia was investigated. Considering the low fuel efficiency of the plant during peak and part-load operations, an economic analysis was also carried out, over the period of one year (2017). The case study was conducted on the isolated electrical network of the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), which consists of two gas turbine units with a total capacity of 8.4 MW. Simple performance indicators were developed to assess t… Show more

“…So, we consider 400KW because this time BESS will discharge to meet the demand and the operation period of BESS is around 2 hours &15minutes. The details of UTP Microgrid can be found in [16]. In Figure 1, the load profile of UTP has been demonstrated.…”

“…A low load factor signifies that an electricity system is being operated inefficiently and is economically poor [100]. Thus, a high load factor is desirable in order to ensure that the seaport microgrid is economically viable by utilizing the total plant capacity for the longest possible period [101]. As a result, the overall cost of providing electric energy will be reduced.…”

“…The load is one of the contributing factors that influences the performance of the gas turbine [57]. The increment in the percentage (%) of applied load indicates the increment of the gas turbine firing temperature.…”
