Performance Comparison for Parabolic Dish Concentrating Solar Power in High Level DNI Locations with George Town, Malaysia

Abstract: Parabolic Dish (PD) Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) generation has appeared as one of Renewable Energy (RE) that is efficient and trustworthy. As technology moves into commercialization, it is necessary to study the performance of PD system at various locations. Current literature on PD especially for tropical environment such as Malaysia and locations with Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) lower than 1500 kWh/m2/year is still scarce and scattered. Most of the studies are focusing on the performance at location w… Show more

“…In Malaysia, the solar radiation is decreased from the Northern states to the Southern states [9]. Northern states such as Perlis, a part of Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, a part of Melaka and a few places in East Malaysia (especially Sabah) received the most amount of solar radiation, while Johor at the southern Peninsular Malaysia and most parts in Sarawak receives the lowest solar radiation.…”

Meanwhile, the irradiance data that used for this study are selected based on locations that receive the highest, medium and lowest irradiation in Malaysia [9], [10].…”

“…(Hashim, 2020) has proposed the same study by using five LDRs to track the sun and improve the proposed control system's efficiency. (Affandi et al, 2014) (Affandi et al, 2014) investigated a low-cost (1KW )parabolic dish reflected by aluminumbased solar concentered power in Malaysia's environment using MATLAB simulation. This paper deals with implementing the Arduino Uno controller of a solar thermal concentrator tracking system.…”

“…Approximately 70% reduction in electricity cost was achieved when the power plant was operated with an optimal solar insolation and storage combination. Similarly, Affandi et al 11 have assessed the parabolic dish's performance in various environmental conditions of selected countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Australia, and the United States. The results were evaluated using the SAM software.…”
