Performance Evaluation of a Raspberry Pi Bramble Cluster for Penetration Testing

Abstract

There is a growing need for low cost, high performance penetration testing hardware and software platforms to counteract the increasing number and severity of cyberattacks, as well as to provide education and training tools to address the significant shortage of cybersecurity professionals. In this paper, we investigate parallel computer clusters using the low cost Raspberry Pi platform as an alternative to conventional penetration testing systems. We investigate 2-node and 4-nobe Bramble clusters for wireless password cracking using open source Kali Linux tools, and compare the performance with conventional desktop and laptop systems.
