Performance evaluation of anodic nano‐catalyst for direct methanol alkaline fuel cell

Abstract: In this study, a nano‐scale perovskite NdFeO3 (NdFeO3NPs) was synthesized with usage a rapid ultrasonic‐assisted co‐precipitation process and characterized by several techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectra, X‐ray powder diffraction, SEM and energy dispersive X‐ray. Electrochemical studies using a modified glassy carbon electrode with Pd nanoparticles (PdNPs) and NdFeO3NPs showed that the proposed multifunctional nanocatalyst can be used as an alternative catalyst toward methanol oxidation (MO). … Show more

“…In this context, a rationally designed BaCo 0.7 (Ce 0.8 Y 0.2 ) 0.3 O 3−δ composite could greatly increase the number of active sites, and significantly influenced the fuel cell’s operational stability [ 16 ]. A more active site of NdFeO 3 perovskite catalyst has also been reported, and exhibited favorable activity for direct methanol alkaline fuel cell (DMFC) applications [ 17 ]. Perovskite is currently one of the key electrode materials that are highly useful for the designing and development of an efficient solar-energy conversion system [ 18 ].…”

“…Considering these advantages, DMFC is a strong candidate to take Li-ion batteries places as a lightweight power source thanks to its higher energy efficiency. [8][9][10][11][12] Moreover, DMFC is considered as a promising energy generation system for mobile electronic devices such as laptops, cell phones, digital cameras and for electric vehicles as well, since it is an environmentally friendly system. 13,14 Hence, it is very significant to improve the fuel, electrical and faradaic efficiency of this system.…”

“…On the other hand, methanol is a liquid fuel easily stored, transported, renewable, economical, and directly used in DMFC without the need for any reforming process. Considering these advantages, DMFC is a strong candidate to take Li‐ion batteries places as a lightweight power source thanks to its higher energy efficiency 8‐12 . “…Thimmappa, Ravikumar et al (2017) developed a DMFC with diffusing electron acceptor and found that it is better than standard DMFC and is 6 times efficient . Yavari, Zahra et al (2018) presented a new catalyst which is nano‐scale perovskite NdFeO3 (NdFeO3NPs) for methanol oxidation . Chen et al conducted the review study on the various components of microsized DMFC.…”
