Performance Evaluation of Coriolis Mass Flowmeters

Abstract: The first practical coriolis mass flowmeter was introduced in 1977. Today, there are several manufacturers which offer various coriolis mass flowmeters with different sensing tube configurations and geometry. These meters continue to evolve, gain wide acceptance, and are used in the chemical, petroleum, food and beverage industries because of the several features that they posses over other types of flow measurement devices. This paper presents a performance evaluation of three types of coriolis mass flowmeter… Show more

“…The resonance frequency of the sensor tubes will also be affected by the fluid flowing through the tubes. Thus, the density of the fluid can be determined by the change in the resonance frequency [41]. Most of the Coriolis flowmeters also have a temperature sensor to compensate for the changes in the tube stiffness with temperature [42].…”

“…Al-Khamis et al [108] compared the performance of a U-tube meter, a modified U-tube meter and a twin straight-tube meter in a multiphase test unit designed to measure oil and gas rates, and water cut of oil wells. The performance of the U-tube meters deteriorated significantly when gas flowed with the crude, but the straight tube meter was less sensitive.…”

“…The referenced test separator utilizes proven Coriolis Mass Flow Meters technology 6,7,8,9 to estimate the flow rates of the three phases. It is worth mentioning here that for the non-sour crude tests the gas rate meter in the reference test separator was not operational.…”
