Performance Evaluation of G8, a High-Sensitivity Benchtop Preclinical PET/CT Tomograph

Abstract: G8 is a bench top integrated PET/CT scanner dedicated to high sensitivity and high resolution imaging of mice. This work characterizes its National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) NU4-2008 performance where applicable and also provides an assessment of the basic imaging performance of the CT subsystem. The PET subsystem in G8 consists of four flat-panel type detectors arranged in a box like geometry. Each panel consists of two modules of a 26 × 26 pixelated bismuth germanate (BGO) scintillator arra… Show more

“…In a separate experiment, PET/CT scans were performed using a small-animal bench-top PET/CT scanner 40 (G8, Perkin Elmer, Massachusetts, U.S), as previously reported, with a set energy window ranging from 150 keV to 650 keV 41 . Mice were subcutaneously inoculated with PC-3 PIP tumor cells (6 × 10 6 cells) and PC-3 flu tumors cells (5 × 10 6 cells) on the right and left shoulder, respectively, 7–10 days before the acquisition of the PET/CT scans.…”

“…PET/CT scans were performed using a small-animal bench-top PET/CT scanner (G8, Perkin Elmer, Waltham, MA, USA.) in order to qualitatively estimate the delivered dose distribution by PT [24]). Due to the compact size of this scanner, it was possible to transport it from CRS to CPT to the OPTIS2 treatment room.…”

“…The preclinical G8 PET/CT system (Sofie BioSciences, Perkin-Elmer) (24), the successor of the preclinical PET/CT system Genisys 4 (Sofie BioSciences) (25), was used in this study. The G8 applies a dead-time correction to the data; however, it is accurate only up to a photon flux produced by a mouse injected with 3 MBq of 18 F-FDG.…”
