Performance evaluation of multi-criteria vertical handover for heterogeneous wireless networks

Abstract: Always Best Connected (ABC) concept allows the best connectivity to mobile users anywhere at any time in heterogeneous network environment. To answer its requirement, Network selection techniques play a considered role in providing the best QoS in such environment. In this paper authors study the use of Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) used to choose the best network from available networks. Authors compare handover decision algorithms: MEW (Multiplicative Exponent Weighting), SAW (Simple Additive Wei… Show more

“…The Figures 3 and 4 describe the end to end delay and the Packet Loss respectively of each traffic class for each handover decision algorithm, also, it presents the difference of the performance between the weights given in [15] and presented with our scenario in [16] and our weights with the same scenario.…”

“…As in [16], our contribution consists of a handover decision phase; decision makers must choose the best network from available networks. The goal of this contribution is to analyze the weights given to the metrics, so that, as reported in the Algorithm block diagram shown in Figure 2, simulation provides the system with the metrics in realtime and a pairwise comparison is applied according to each QoS class: Conversational, Streaming, Interactive and Background.…”

“…By using algorithm, it can improve the performance by reducing unnecessary handover and "ping-pong" effect [4] The VHD algorithm based on the combination algorithm is a high reliability algorithm because it has a training algorithm system like Multiple Attribute Decision Making algorithm. It is a combined algorithm that uses various parameters simultaneously such as artificial neural network and fuzzy logic [6].…”

“…Each value of the network candidate i is derived from adding the contribution of the normalization of each rj matrix multiplied by the weight of the weight interest assigned wj from the matrix j. It will then select the selected ASAW * network based on * = arg max 1 ∈ ∑ =1 (1) where N indicates parameters and M indicates the network candidates targeted by the device [6].…”
