Performance Evaluation the Turbidity Removal Efficiency of AL-Muthana Water Treatment Plant

Abstract: Turbidity is a visual property of water that expresses the amount of suspended substances in the water. Its presence in quantities more significant than the permissible limit makes the water undrinkable and reduces the effectiveness of disinfectants in treating pathogens. On this basis, turbidity is used as a basic indicator for measuring water quality. This study aims to evaluate the removal efficiency of AL- Muthanna WTP. Water turbidity was used as a basic parameter in the evaluation, using performance impr… Show more

“…All of the average values of treated water complied with the MOH standards, yet 94 % of the sample compliance was recorded for the whole 6month period of water sampling due to the high turbidity values in raw water when rainy seasons occur [11], and operational issues such as uneven distribution of coagulant dose in the pipeline causing lower removal efficiency. Data variation in turbidity led to a different efficiency level and indicated the need for maintenance of the water treatment system, agreed a study from Nasier and Abdulrazzaq [11].…”

“…Based on The TDS parameter indicates the presence of organic or inorganic substances in the water where it may increase because of the addition of chemicals, or an excess of hydrolysed PAC products, both in dissolved and partially dissolved forms [4,13]. Random addition of coagulant PAC dose without conducting jar test led to unfavorable data results due to over or underdosage of coagulant, urging sufficient daily monitoring by the operation [11]. Yet, the permissible drinking water quality standard set by the MOH is below 1000 mg/L.…”

“…In addition to that starting in June more students/residents joined the campus and every activity was affected by them, which in turn changed the amount of sewer discharged from the campus. An ineffective biological treatment, sedimentation, or nal ltration process may be responsible for the decrease in monthly turbidity removal e ciency (Nasier & Abdulrazzaq 2022). The study conducted to examine the turbidity levels in various sampling points has yielded results that are signi cantly higher than the values recorded in previous research conducted by Wyasu (2020).…”
