Performance of Estimative Models for Daily Reference Evapotranspiration in the City of Cassilândia, Brazil

Abstract: Before choosing the method of the estimate of reference evapotranspiraton (ET0) in a region, it is important to evaluate the degree of precision of the model. The present research aimed to evaluate the performance of 30 methods for daily ET0 estimate in the Cassilândia city, Brazil.

“…The poor performance of RM method can be explained by the fact that, in addition to having a low requirement of meteorological variables for its implementation, it is calculated on the monthly scale, and have been adjusted to the daily scale in this work. Similar behavior was observed in the state's northeastern Mato Grosso when Cunha et al (2017) which evaluated the performance of 30 ETo estimation methods. The TC method was the one that most stood out among the eight models tested, evaluated as optimum in seven out of ten investigated locations, presenting a good correspondence among the estimates (r≥0.73), associated with one of the lowest scattering degrees of the data (RMSE≤0.52 mm d -1 ).…”

“…A maioria dos métodos para estimar a ETP na literatura são em escala diária. Os principais métodos projetados em escala mensal são Camargo, Linacre, Hamon, Romanenko, Lungeon e Thornthwaite (Cunha et al, 2017b;Fernandes et al, 2010).…”

“…In contrast, the agreement obtained here with the proposed ETo MJS method ranged from 0.92 to 0.95 across the same climatic regions. Moreover, the ETo MJS agreement index was higher (“ d ” index = 0.92 to 0.95) than observed with other alternative methods (“ d ” index = 0.50 to 0.82) [ 47 ]. Therefore, the use of solar radiation in the alternative methods significantly improved ETo estimates.…”
