Peritoneal Dialysis Education 

Abstract

Kidney replacement therapy (KRT) may present restrictions on a patient's lifestyle. The patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) must overcome numerous barriers in order to survive; among them, the capacity to discern which KRT is the best choice, allowing a smoother adaptation to the new life situation. Home KRT such as peritoneal dialysis (PD) involve patients and/or their caregivers performing all required PD technique procedures with a distant daily support of a multidisciplinary team or clinical staff. Moreover, they must also know the possible complications and their management, adapting to the policies and procedures of the health system where they belong to.
