Perovskite processing for photovoltaics: a spectro-thermal evaluation

Abstract: A real-time analysis by STA-FTIR of changes occurring and volatiles evolved during processing of perovskites for PV technology. Solvent retention, presence of chemical species and decomposition of materials can be evaluated to gain insight into material composition.

“…Recent experimental evidence indicates the possible presence of several weight per cent remnant solvent, dimethylformamide (DMF) trapped within crystalline samples following preparation38. Our measurements suggest that up to ∼2% of our measured sample weight could be residual gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) entrapped in the material (Supplementary Fig.…”

“…A clear cubic-tetragonal phase transition temperature of MAPbI 3 was detected by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) analysis [65], however no such phase transition was observed for MAPbI 3−x Cl x [83]. To explain the absence of the phase transition for MAPbI 3−x Cl x , we first study the crystallization process of MAPbI 3-x Cl x by one step deposition method.…”

“…[ 29 ] The role of Cl is suggested to affect the morphological evolution of MAPbI 3 in the chemical process. [ 27,30,31 ] However, other recent experiments claim to clearly confi rm the existence of Cl in the fi nal MAPbI 3 , [ 32,33 ] making the Cl issue more controversial. In this paper, we fi rst consider the structural disorder of pristine β phase MAPbI 3 induced by thermal fl uctuation at room temperature (300 K).…”
