“…The more the existing heaviness can be taken advantage offor innovation as well as for efficiencythe less economically demanding the change process will be. The content and consequences of economic exchange give opportunities to utilise relationships and their connectedness (Håkansson et al, 2009), the economic heaviness of established resource constellations (Håkansson and Waluszewski, 2002) and its spatial configuration as well as its journey (Håkansson et al, 2006;Waluszewski, 2011;Eklund and Waluszewski, 2015;Eklinder-Frick and Åge, 2017). This also implies that the hindrances and possibilities caused by heaviness make innovation into a far from the neutral process, it is always forced to relate to investments in place (Håkansson and Waluszewski, 2002).…”

“…A second general conclusion, which perhaps is less obvious, is that policy's assumption of a content-and friction-free exchange in commercial producing and using settings along with the recognition of context interdependencies in the non-business developing setting allows for a peculiar definition of the role of place and for neglecting the innovation space. A basic requirement on policy, manifested among others in EU's Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Eklinder-Frick and Åge, 2017;Eklund and Waluszewski, 2015), is that policy investments shall result in place-related benefits (Eklinder-Frick and Åge, 2017). The idea that interdependencies exist in a non-business developing setting, but are swept away once the knowledge advancement is transformed into an economic resource exchanged on the market, allows for the assumption that advanced research milieus is a "vehicle" that will attract businesses to make their investments in close spatial proximity to these.…”

“…Prior studies suggest that the firms in a cluster must transform and upgrade to sustain their competitiveness and stay relevant to the cluster. These studies suggest too that inter-firm networks are essential for an SME's innovation journey; the networks in which the clusters are embedded are the main mechanisms that facilitate the cluster firms' interaction, learning, and innovation (Casanueva et al, 2013;Eklinder-Frick and Age, 2017;Lev en et al, 2014).…”

“…Within the IMP Group literature, the central role of knowledge for innovation has been addressed especially considering the need to interact with several actors (Håkansson and Waluszewski, 2007). The role of knowledge has been discussed in recent contributions comparing the IMP approach to other perspectives (Eklinder-Frick and Åge, 2017), in the attempt to find ways to join the insights emerging from the "market as network approach" that specifically deals with interactions among actors within the setting of innovation (Waluszewski et al, 2014).…”
