Background: Pharmacists are furnished with expert drug knowledge and have been considered as valuable resource of drug information, therefore, are well positioned to play a leading role in the application of pharmacogenomics (PG) in to clinical practice. This might prevent Chemotherapy related adverse events and improve patient outcomes, despite the ethical, privacy concerns and potential implications of lifelong genetic-data. Methods: This review is to evaluate and digest the various studies on Knowledge, Attitudes and Practice concerning pharmacogenomics among pharmacists and to suggest future research areas. 13 English published studies from 2004 to 2014 were selected. Studies involving Pharmacists of different area of practice and covering research from different continents were selected. Only studies on attitudes, knowledge and practice concerning pharmacogenetics among pharmacists from 2004 to 2014, and research articles published in English were selected. Non-research articles, studies done on general public; studies conducted among other healthcare professionals; studies on genetics of diseases or toxicogenetics were excluded. Results: Knowledge and practice regarding pharmacogenetics among pharmacists were poor despite good attitudes. There was knowledge advancement from 38% in 2005 to more than 50% 2013 in some countries. Some barriers to adoption of pharmacogenomics into patient care and interventional recommendations were highlighted. Conclusion: there is an urgent call for additional training of Pharmacogenomics among pharmacists and to incorporate pharmacogenomics into curriculum of pharmacy schools. Pharmacists and future pharmacists should be trained on how to critically evaluate the use, efficacy, and safety of available pharmacogenetic testing.

Integration of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacovigilance in the curricula of future healthcare professionals is essential towards individualized medicine and drug safety. Researchers are lacking in Knowledge, attitude and practice regarding pharmacogenovigilance in drug safety among Malaysian future health professionals. This study is to develop and validate a reliable questionnaire for evaluation of knowledge, attitude and practice o f future Doctors and Pharmacists concerning Pharmacogenovigilance in drug safety. A 49-item self-administered questionnaire was developed from the literature. The content was validated by a panel of relevant experts followed by face validity. A pilot study on 100 respondents was conducted for reliability, followed by a crosssectional study involving 247 participants in factor analysis. The content validity index of the whole questionnaire was 0.8%. The overall Cronbach"s Alpha was 0.8, with P<0.001. 67.4% of the total variance was explained by 13 factors, and we can conclude that the questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument. INTRODUCTIONPharmacogenomics is the study of variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in relation to genetic variations. If genetic factors are taken into account appropriately prior to drug treatment, the regimen can be personalized to the individual patient need, hence promote drug safety. Clinicians are increasingly anticipated to incorporate pharmacogenomics into practices, but this expectation has been below projected. Therefore, it is important that future physicians and pharmacists are exposed to these important areas. A measuring tool like questionnaire could assist medical educators and health care providers in evaluating the teaching programs for future Doctors and Pharmacists and necessity of retraining. Background and AimsPharmacists have been recognized as one of the most qualified healthcare professionals in the clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics, yet its widespread implementation in clinical pharmacy practice has remained limited. The review aims to systematically investigate knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes toward pharmacogenomics among pharmacists and pharmacy students to inform the future delivery of pharmacogenomics education programs.MethodsPubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and the International Pharmaceutical Abstracts were searched up to May 17, 2022. Studies were selected if they included data on pharmacists' or pharmacy students' knowledge, perception, or attitude about pharmacogenomics and were published in a peer‐reviewed, English‐language journal with full‐text availability. Any published study not deemed original research was excluded. All included studies were critically appraised using the Center for Evidence‐Based Management's critical appraisal tools. The data were descriptively analyzed and presented based on pharmacists' and pharmacy students' knowledge/awareness, perception/attitudes toward pharmacogenomic (PGx), confidence in using or interpreting PGx testing results, and their desire to get further PGx education or their most preferred method of further education.ResultsA combined total of 12,430 pharmacists and pharmacy students from 26 countries are represented in the 52 included studies. Despite overwhelmingly positive attitudes and perceptions toward pharmacogenomics among pharmacists and pharmacy students, an overall lack of adequate knowledge and confidence was found. The review also found a strong desire for further pharmacogenomics education among pharmacists and pharmacy students.ConclusionPharmacists and pharmacy students have positive perceptions and attitudes toward pharmacogenomics, which is hindered by a lack of knowledge and confidence. However, inadequate control for confounders, limited representativeness of the studied population or region, and small sample sizes diminish the generalizability of the review results. Knowledge and confidence could be improved through enhanced delivery of pharmacogenomic courses within the pharmacy curriculum and continuing education programs.
