Pharyngeal trauma: When to suspect physical abuse

Abstract: Paediatric pharyngeal trauma is common and frequently occurs after falls or other accidents. Children with these injuries typically present to emergency departments with drooling, respiratory distress, stridor and hematemesis. Although most cases of pharyngeal trauma are minor, some can have rare, life‐threatening complications.
