Phase equilibria in the system Al-Rh

Abstract: Methods of differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, microstructural analysis and electron probe microanalysis are used to study alloys of the Al − Rh system over the whole concentration range. It is established that the phase of equiatomic composition AlRh melts congruently at 2060°C and it has an extended range of homogeneity . The solubility of aluminum in rhodium reaches 9 at.%, decreasing to 6 at.% at 850°C. Coordinates are determined for the eutectic point l AlRh + as 70 at.% Rh and 1715°C. … Show more

“…In both AleRh and AleNi there are cascades of peritectics from the congruent equiatomic b-phases towards Al [5,6]. In the ternary compositional range the melting temperatures are higher at the AleRh side and vary from 2060 (for AlRh) to 640 C (for AleNi eutectic).…”

“…In accordance with the solidus surface, the liquidus surface contains fields of primary crystallization of solid solutions based on rhodium and phases based on binary compounds formed in the bounding binary Al-Rh and Ti-Rh systems: TiRh 3 (β) with an AuCu 3 -type structure, Ti 3 Rh 5 (γ) of a Ge 3 (Table 1). The presence of reflections from the δ phase lattice in x-ray patterns of as-cast alloys containing from 63.0 to 67.72 at.% Rh correlates with MSA data (Tables 1, 2).…”

“…The results were interpreted considering the nonequilibrium crystallization when bars are rapidly cooled down on the hearth of an arc furnace after smelting. The phase diagram of the bounding binary Ti-Rh system is based on compiled reference data [2], and that of the bounding binary Al-Rh system is based on previous experimental research [3].…”

“…Because of the isostructural nature and close lattice parameters (Δa ≈ 0.013 nm) of AlRh and high-temperature modification of TiRh in the bounding binary Al-Rh and Ti-Rh system [6,7], we assumed that there existed a continuous series of solid solutions with a CsCl-type structure. This permits partial triangulation of the ternary Al-TiRh system at the AlRh-TiRh section.…”

“…This paper focuses on the phase equilibria in the TiRh-Rh-AlRh partial system at subsolidus temperatures that are depicted on the solidus surface. The phase diagram of the bounding binary Ti-Rh system is constructed in compliance with the reference complied data [6] and of the bounding binary Al-Rh system in compliance with our previous experiments [7].…”
