Phenalenyl-based mononuclear dysprosium complexes

Abstract: SummaryThe phenalenyl-based dysprosium complexes [Dy(PLN)2(HPLN)Cl(EtOH)] (1), [Dy(PLN)3(HPLN)]·[Dy(PLN)3(EtOH)]·2EtOH (2) and [Dy(PLN)3(H2O)2]·H2O (3), HPLN being 9-hydroxy-1H-phenalen-1-one, have been synthesized. All compounds were fully characterized by means of single crystal X-ray analysis, paramagnetic 1H NMR, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, UV–vis spectrophotometry and magnetic measurements. Both static (dc) and dynamic (ac) magnetic properties of these complexes have been investigated, showing slow relax… Show more

“…3H, red) and a product magnetic susceptibility of 14.12 cm 3 K mol −1 at 300 K, decreasing to 10.97 cm 3 K mol −1 at 2 K (fig. S18) because of thermal depopulation of the Stark sublevels of the Dy(III) ground state (27). In contrast, the raw fibers showed a diamagnetic behavior (negative magnetic moment) throughout the full temperature range (Fig.…”

“…The synthesis of these compounds and their magnetic properties is well established. [27][28][29] Following our previous rationale and requirements for designing molecules that could be biologically integrated into the cellulose cotton fibers, we devised a synthetic route to combine the glucosamine (our carrier) with a macrocycle known to cage lanthanides. This macrocycle comprises hanging carboxylate groups and nitrogen atoms that complex the lanthanides.…”

“…Early reports on opo complexes of Mn II , Fe III , Co II , Ni II , Cu II , Zn II , and UO 2 2+ do not contain detailed characterisations or applications [ 21 , 22 , 23 ]. A number of main-group metal complexes containing B III [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ], Si IV [ 24 ], Ge IV [ 24 ], Be II [ 11 , 21 ], or Al III [ 21 , 25 ] or the f-elements Nd III [ 25 , 26 ], Eu III [ 25 , 26 , 27 ], Dy III [ 25 , 28 ], Er III [ 25 , 26 ], and Yb III [ 25 , 26 ] were studied till 2010, the latter with interesting luminescence properties.…”
