“…Analogously, it has been postulated that intrusive growth of laticifers may also be affected by enzymes like PME through pectin modification (Hagel et al, 2008). In case of C. roseus , the results obtained in our present and previous (Mall et al, 2021) studies seem to support this hypothesis. The pattern of CrPME transcript abundance and PME specific activity in the three familial C. roseus genotypes was similar to the pattern of laticifer number and vindoline (laticifer‐specific TIA) content in them ‐ CIM‐Sushil > Dhawal > Nirmal.…”

“…Experimental plants were kept in a glasshouse under standard conditions (25 ± 2°C, 16/8 h light/dark photoperiod, 60–75% relative humidity). The leaf vindoline content (% dry weight basis) of the three familial genotypes was in the order: CIM‐Sushil (~0.20%) > Dhawal (0.09%) > Nirmal (0.04%) (Gupta et al, 2020; Mall et al, 2021). For the comparative experiments (for PME protein activity and gene expression), all three genotypes were used, whereas all other experiments were carried out on the Dhawal genotype.…”
