Abstract: Oocyte activation is a fundamental event in mammalian fertilization and is initiated by a cascade of calcium signaling and oscillation pathways. Phospholipase C zeta (PLCζ) is involved in modulating cortical granule exocytosis, releasing oocyte meiotic arrest, regulating gene expression, and early embryogenesis.
