Abstract:We investigate the non-equilibrium electronic structure and characteristic time scales in a candidate excitonic insulator, Ta2NiSe5, using time-and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy with a temporal resolution of 50 fs. Following a strong photoexcitation, the band gap closes transiently within 100 fs, i.e., on a time scale faster than the typical lattice vibrational period. Furthermore, we find that the characteristic time associated with the rise of the photoemission intensity above the Fermi energy de… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
