In this paper we report the effect of water absorption on pristine and 75 MeV oxygen ion-irradiated kapton-H polyimide by using the thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) technique. The TSDC spectra reveal two significant peaks at low and intermediate temperatures around 30 • C and 110 • C termed as γ -peak (absorbed water-relaxation) and β-peak (dipolar-relaxation), respectively. The strength of the low-temperature peak (γ -peak) is affected in the opposite mode for pristine and ion-irradiated samples. A current reversal has been observed at 60 • C almost in all the cases; this can be associated with the presence of homocharges. The current reversal that appears here can be correlated with the internally developed field in the sample as the applied electric field is not very high. Activation energy has been calculated by using the Debye relaxation process. The value of activation energy for the γ -peak varies from 0.4 to 0.8 eV. Cole-Cole distribution, a relaxation process, is associated with distribution of relaxation time which can be measured using a distribution function. The enhancement in the distribution of τ can be associated with the dipolar relaxation process owing to the formation of some new radiation-induced sub-polar groups.

Thermally stimulated spontaneous currents in 75 MeV oxygen-ion-irradiated kapton-H polyimide samples sandwiched between similar (M-P-M) and dissimilar (M 1 -P-M 2 ) electrodes in the temperature range of 20-250°C have been studied. Metals used as electrodes in the present investigations are having different work functions (Bi: 4.22, Al: 4.28, Cr: 4.37, Cu: 4.70 and Au: 5.1 eV). One maxima in the temperature region 30-60°C and other in the temperature region 100-120°C have been observed, termed as γ and β relaxations, respectively. γ -Relaxation is associated with the water absorption and β-relaxation is associated with the presence of dipoles in the material. The magnitude of the current depends on the type of electrode combinations used: either similar (M-P-M) or dissimilar (M 1 -P-M 2 ) electrode systems. The value of current in M 1 -P-M 2 combinations is more in comparison with M-P-M systems, as the internal potential difference developed in dissimilar electrodes is more as compared with the similar electrode system. The carbonyl groups present in the structure of kapton-H polyimide are the most affected group, due to the contact electrode system and ion irradiation. Aluminum atoms interact with imide carbonyl groups in kapton-H polyimide form carbonyl ( > C=O)-metal complex. As a result of ion irradiation, demerization of carbonyl groups and formation of some new polar-subpolar groups take place. The moisture in ion-irradiated samples promotes the current magnitude via helping in transport or conduction of charge carriers through polyimide.

Abstract-Security remains a major "pain" for both individuals and large organizations in today's modern world. Everything needs security, whether it is communication through telephonic media, or transfer of data files. The security or privacy can only be ensured by applying algorithms to the data defined under Cryptography. Encryption, a mechanism which changes the plaintext to a secured form defined as scrambled text(cipher). The scrambled text, then is received and decryption is done to analyze the plaintext. This involves various types such as: symmetric or asymmetric encryption. This paper brings in an improved and optimized version of 3DES algorithm. It also lists various advantages of the new algorithm over DES and Triple-DES algorithm. A brief in between DES, Triple-DES and the newly designed algorithm (Optimized DES Algorithm) is provided taking amount of complexity, user effort required, key size and number of rounds to perform successful conversion operations as base for comparison.
