Photonic crystal ring resonator-based add drop filters: a review

Abstract: Abstract. The add drop filter (ADF) is one of the most significant devices for coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) systems to add and/ or drop a required channel individually from multiplexed output channels without disturbing other channels. The important parameters of the ADF are coupling efficiency, dropping efficiency, passband width and Q factor. Photonic crystal (PC)-based optical devices have attracted great interest due to their compactness, speed of operation, long life period, suitability … Show more

“…Two dimensional photonic crystals (2DPC) are receiving much attention from the research and scientific community in designing the optical devices as they have attractive features including better confinement of light, efficient PBG calculation, effective control of spontaneous emission, relatively simple fabrication than 3DPCs, and easy integration with other devices [18]. 2DPC based optical devices, such as optical sensors [19], filters [20], multiplexers, de-multiplexers, directional couplers, power dividers/splitters, logic gates, and switches [21], have already been reported.…”

“…Our DMUX is compared with the recently reported the DMUX, in Table . According to this table, the values of the optical transmission, crosstalk, quality factor, channel spacing, and the line width of our structure are comparatively much better ring resonators offer scalability in size, flexibility in mode design because of their multimode nature and adaptability in structure design because of many important design parameters …”

“…The PCRR based structures that have been reported so far are: (1) Square and quasi-square-shape PCRR, (2) Dual curved-shape PCRR, (3) L-shape PCRR, (4) 45-deg-square shape PCRR, (5) T-shape PCRR, (6) X-shape PCRR, (7) Hexagonal-shape PCRR, and (8) Diamond-shape PCRR [21][22][23][24][25][26][27]. Most of these structures have been proposed for optical channel-drop or add-drop filters.…”
