Phylogenetic analysis and taxonomic study of marine Cytophaga-like bacteria: proposal for Tenacibaculum gen. nov. with Tenacibaculum maritimum comb. nov. and Tenacibaculum ovolyticum comb. nov., and description of Tenacibaculum mesophilum sp. nov. and Tenacibaculum amylolyticum sp. nov.

Abstract: ), which were isolated from sponges and macroalgae, are also reported. For taxonomic considerations at the species level, the resolution of gyrB sequences was superior to that of 16S rDNA sequences, and the grouping based on the gyrB phylogram was consistent with DNA-DNA hybridization results.

“…1). The clustering of strain YKTF-3 T and the type strains of T. gallaicum, T. discolor, T. litoreum and T. ascidiaceicola was also found in the trees reconstructed using the maximumlikelihood and maximum-parsimony algorithms (Figs S2 and S3 The predominant isoprenoid quinone detected in strain YKTF-3 T was menaquinone-6 (MK-6), in line with data for the genus Tenacibaculum (Suzuki et al, 2001) and all other members of the family Flavobacteriaceae (Bernardet, 2011).…”

“…html; Parte, 2014;Kim et al, 2016). Members of the genus Tenacibaculum have been isolated from a variety of marine environments and marine organisms (Suzuki et al, 2001;Frette et al, 2004;Yoon et al, 2005;Sheu et al, 2007;Heindl et al, 2008;Piñeiro-Vidal et al, 2008Wang et al, 2008;Lee et al, 2009;Oh et al, 2012;Li et al, 2013;Kim et al, 2013Kim et al, , 2016. The aim of the present work was to determine the exact taxonomic position of strain YKTF-3 T by using a polyphasic characterization.…”

“…As an example, in 2001, Suzuki et al from the Kyowa Hakko Kogyo company published an article that utilized sequence information from five microbes isolated from Palauan sponges and algae that permitted the identification of a completely new taxon of bacteria, the genus Tenacibaculum. 39 …”

“…Cell morphology and the presence of flagella were observed by transmission electron microscopy (JEM-1230; JEOL) when cells were in the exponential phase of growth on the MA plate at 30 C. Gliding motility was performed by the hanging-drop method (Suzuki, 2001). Poly-b-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) granules were assessed by staining with Sudan Black (Mesquita et al, 2015).…”
