Phylogeny of Flabellulidae (Amoebozoa: Leptomyxida) inferred from SSU rDNA sequences of the type strain of Flabellula citata Schaeffer, 1926 and newly isolated strains of marine amoebae

Abstract: Abstract. New strains of non-vannellid flattened amoebae isolated from fish, an invertebrate and the marine environment were studied together with Flabellula citata Schaeffer, 1926 selected by morphology as a reference strain. The study revealed a paucity of features distinguishing individual strains at the generic level, but clearly evidenced mutual phylogenetic relationships within the assemblage of strains as well as their affiliation to the Leptomyxida. In this study, the SSU rDNA dataset of leptomyxids wa… Show more

“…Cell fusion is widely reported for Amoebozoa [61,62]. Among the leptomyxids, Leptomyxa reticulata [61], Flabellula baltica [63] and multiple strains of flabellulids [64] are observed to fuse. Subsequently, the cells separate or persist as multinucleate stages.…”

“…Numerous additions have been made to the system of Smirnov et al [15] , generally placing incertae sedis taxa without much modification into the higher-level proposed relationships (eg. [16] , [17] , [18] , [19] , [20] , [21] , [22] ). Subsequent large-scale reconstructions largely corroborated the proposed relationships in the Smirnov et al [15] system [23] , [24] , [25] , [26] .…”
