Physical, Mechanical and Magnetic Properties of the Yb-Substituted Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2O y Textured Superconductor

Abstract: In this study, samples with nominal composition of Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca 1 Cu 2-x Yb x O y , where x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.25 have been textured using the Laser Floating Zone technique. The effects of different Yb doping on the structure have been investigated by electrical resistivity, scanning electron microscopy, XRD, mechanical and dc-magnetization techniques. It has been found that with increasing Yb 3+ doping for Cu, the physical and superconducting properties of structure gradually decrease. J c values, calcula… Show more

“…In previous works, the effects of several substitutions for Ca or Cu have been studied in detail [42][43][44][45]. On the other hand, in the best of our knowledge, no studies about the Na-substitution effect on the Bi-2212 properties have been made.…”

“…On the other hand, there are some  problems which limit the practical applications of (Bi,Pb)-2223; the most limiting parameters for the practical applications of this phase are critical current density J c and mechanical properties [2]. Since the discovery of high temperature superconductors (HTSCs), many substitutions have been carried out in BSCCO system in order to improve its T c and J c , and better understand the structural, physical, and mechanical properties [3][4][5][6][7][8]. The rare-earth element chemical substitution has an effective route in improving the flux pinning centers, which in turn enhance J c and other transport properties of (Bi,Pb)-2223 phase [9].…”

“…From these micrographs, it is clear that the grey contrast in all samples is the major one which has been associated by EDX to the Bi-2212 phase. Note that the different contrasts found in the micrographs indicate the different phases which can be easily analyzed by EDX analysis [34,35]. However, the amount of dark grey and white contrasts increase with increasing Yb content, implying that the increase in Yb content produces non-superconducting phases in the bulk samples.…”
