Physical preseparation for chemistry experiments

Abstract: The availability of physically preseparated isotopes for chemistry experiment opens up completely new possibilities, especially for chemical investigations of transactinide elements. Many restrictions present in conventional methods that were used very successfully in the past can be overcome by using preseparated isotopes. An overview of experiments that were performed with preseparated isotopes is given. Studies of β-diketonates of group 4 elements are described in some more detail and used as an example to … Show more

“…All three of the above mentioned disadvantages of aerosoljets with recoil chambers coupled directly to the target can be circumvented by using interjacent physical preseparators [110][111][112][113][114][115]. In this most recent development, which constitutes a breakthrough in SHE chemistry, gasfilled magnetic recoil-separators are applied between the target and the recoil chamber -now commonly termed Recoil Transfer Chamber, RTC [116][117][118].…”

“…Recently, the method of physical preseparation [11][12][13][14] has been developed to overcome these technical limitations. In this technique, the EVRs are spatially separated in a physical recoil separator from unwanted nuclear reaction products as well as the intense heavy-ion beam.…”
