Physicochemical characterization and drug release properties of PDMAEMA/OSA Semi‐IPN hydrogels with microporous structure

Abstract: A new poly(2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate)/oxidized sodium alginate (PDMAEMA) semi-interpenetrating network (Semi-IPN) hydrogel with microporous structure was prepared by using PDMAEMA microgels as an additive during the polymerization/crosslinking process. The interior morphology characterized by scanning electron microscopy showed the Semi-IPN hydrogels have different pore sizes by changing the amount of microgels. The hydrogels were also characterized by using Fourier transform infrared and DSC. The s… Show more

“…In order to further study the potential effects of ionic species on the adsorption properties of the gels, the tested inorganic salts were divided into two groups: cationic group (KCl, NH 4 Cl, and NaCl) and anionic group (NaCl, NaNO 3 , and Na 2 SO 4 ). Both the initial concentrations of amaranth and sunset yellow solutions were 1.0 g L À1 , the temperature was set at 40 C, the adsorbent dosage was 0.05 g, the adsorption time was 5 h, and the solution pH was 2.0.…”

“…Therefore, the properties of the PDMAEMA gel are closely related to the coupling degree, chemical composition, network structure, and external environment. 4 In order to improve its adsorption capacity or to make it adaptable for more separation tasks, the gel is oen chemically modied methods, such as the modication with amino groups on the polymer chains and copolymerization of the double bonds in the DMAEMA monomers. 5 Alternatively, the functional groups can also be introduced into the molecular chain by modication and copolymerization, which can strengthen its interaction with the target substance.…”

“…There has been increasing interest in the study of SA and CS in connection with various applications mainly for their nontoxic, biocompatible, biodegradable, and mucoadhesive properties [18]. They have shown their potential for use as scaffolds in tissue engineered medical products [19], as an encapsulating matrix for immobilization of living cells [20] and as drug delivery systems [21]. In addition, CS is degraded by the microflora that is available in the colon [22].…”
