“…Desse modo, os estudos propostos e desenvolvidos analisam variáveis como a temperatura corporal, a freqüência respiratória, a freqüên-cia cardíaca, a saturação de oxigênio, o desenvolvimento neurocomportamental, o choro, o sono e o aleitamento materno exclusivo. Dentre estes, os mais comuns são os que tratam da estabilidade dos sinais vitais no recém-nascido, quando em posição canguru, principalmente com relação à manutenção térmica (4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12)(13)(14)(15) . RESUMOEstudo de natureza qualitativa, cujo objetivo é o de identificar o conhecimento que vem sendo produzido e veiculado a respeito do Método Mãe-Canguru (MMC). Foi realizada uma incursão pela literatura, a partir das bases de dados Medline e Lilacs, assim como busca direta aos principais periódicos de enfermagem, durante o período de 1995 a 2004. Foram selecionados 85 artigos, posteriormente catalogados e submetidos à categorização. Após análise dos artigos, foram extraídas quatro categorias sobre a temática. Os resultados levaram à conclusão de que apesar do MMC estar configurando-se como uma mudança paradigmática no cuidado ao recém-nascido, não há total correspondência com a produção teórica, levando a que a prática seja desenvolvida, muitas vezes, sem a devida sustentação teórica. Esta lacuna de conhecimentos dificulta, inclusive, uma adequada avaliação desta prática com relação ao recém-nascido e sua família, mas principalmente no que diz respeito à aplicação do MMC junto à equipe neonatal. Descritores: Método Mãe-Canguru; Prematuro; Enfermagem neonatal; Terapia intensiva neonatal ABSTRACTStudy of a qualitative nature, whose objective is to identify the knowledge that comes out produced and propagated in Brazilians and foreigners periodic, about Kangaroo Mother Method (KMM). An incursion for literature was carried through, from the databases Medline and Lilacs, as well as direct search to main the nursing periodic, during the period from 1995 through 2004. Eight five articles were selected, later catalogued and submitted to categorizes. After analysis of the articles, four categories were extracted on the thematic. The results had led to the conclusion that despite the KMM being configuring itself as a paradigmatic change in the care to the newborn, it does not have total correspondence with the theoretical production, taking the one that the practical one is developed, many times, without had theoretical sustentation.
