“…In this study, GTH-II decreased gradually with increasing dosage of LHRH-A 2 . This result was in agreement with the study conducted by Moberg et al (1995) as they reported the increase of pituitary GTH-II just prior to spawning in sturgeon females. Just during this period, the GTH-II becomes predominant gonadotropin in the pituitary.…”

“…Western blot detection and immunofluoresence localization revealed the existence of three-gonadotropin subunits (AsGTH-␣, AsFSH␤ and AsLH␤) in mature sturgeon pituitaries, whereas in immature individuals, only AsFSH␤ was expressed from 4-year-old male and 5-year-old female pituitaries. In white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus), Moberg et al (1995) observed that the pituitary and plasma concentrations of FSH␤ were higher than that of LH␤ during vitellogenesis and early stages of spermatogenesis. Conversely, pituitary and plasma concentrations of LH␤ were higher than those of FSH␤ during ovulation and spermiation.…”

“…In other sturgeons, Moberg et al (1995) showed the existence of two GTHs in white sturgeon (A. transmontanus). Doroshov et al (1997) observed reproductive cycle of cultured white sturgeon.…”

“…It is known that the sturgeon brain secretes mammalian-type GnRH (Sherwood et al 1991), but the sites of secretion and interaction of GnRH with pituitary gonadotropes have not been identified. Studies in our laboratory with white sturgeon,Acipenser transmontanus have shown the gonadotropin releasing hormone analog D-Ala 6 -des-Gly' 0 -GnRH ethylamide (GnRHa) to be an effective stimulant for the release of two gonadotropins, termed sturgeon gonadotropin I (stGTH I) and sturgeon gonadotropin II (st GTH II) (Moberg et al 1991a(Moberg et al , 1995. However, there is no information implicating dopamine involvement in the regulation of stGTH I and stGTH II secretion in Chondrosteans.…”
