Phytochemical Analysis and Antifungal bioactivity of Pulicaria undulata (L.) Methanolic Extract and Essential Oil

Abstract: P ULICARIA UNDULATA is one of the aromatic annual herbs used in folk medicine in Egypt. The aerial parts of P. undulata plants were collected from the Red sea coastal desert during the flowering stage and used for phytochemical analysis. It was revealed that P. undulata aerial portions contain phenols, flavonoids terpenoids, saponins, alkaloids, glucosinolates and cardiac glycosides highlighting its participation in drug development and using as an alternative strategy to the harmful synthetic fungicides. The … Show more

“…It should be mentioned that some compounds identified in M. vulgare have been identified in other plants such as cyclotetrasiloxane and octamethyl, identified in the methanol extract of Dillenia scabrella Roxb. (Dilleniaceae) and the methanolic extract of Pulicaria undulata L. (Asteraceae) [ 42 , 43 ]. Silanol, trimethyl-, phosphate was identified in Anacardium occidentale nut [ 44 ] also in the extract of Terminalia bellirica (Combretaceae) seed [ 45 ].…”

“…The higher concentrations of these constituents, together with the high levels of the antioxidant activity, and the currently investigated antimicrobial activity of P. undulata , together with the presence of several fatty acid constituents (including linoleic acid), has made this Saudi Arabian species, P. undulata , a good source of nutrition and a prominent ethnomedicinal herb of the region that is frequently used as part of traditional medicine. A comparative assessment of these characteristics of the locally distributed P. undulata in comparison to other locations dispersed species also substantiated the nutritional claims, and food, feed, and ethnomedicinal practices [ 65 , 66 ].…”

“…26 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, is a potent volatile compound have an antifungal activity such as Fusarium, 27 Cyclotrisiloxane, hexamethyl-presented good antioxidant and antifungal activities against the mycoses, which are caused a high mortality rate of individuals with compromised immune systems. 28 According to Gaafar et al, the Cyclopentasiloxane, decamethyl-is detected in other plant extracts using GC/MS analysis, it may be contributing in the cytotoxicity effect against colon cancer cells (HCT116) and breast cancer cells (MCF-7). It may be exhibit an antiviral activity against avian influenza H5N1 virus through the inhibition of their viral adsorption, replication and propagation process.…”
