Phytochemical and Biological Evaluation of a Newly Designed Nutraceutical Self-Nanoemulsifying Self-Nanosuspension for Protection and Treatment of Cisplatin Induced Testicular Toxicity in Male Rats

Abstract: The incorporation of cisplatin (CP) as a cytotoxic antineoplastic agent in most chemotherapeutic protocols is a challenge due to its toxic effect on testicular tissues. Natural compounds present a promising trend in research, so a new nutraceutical formulation (NCF) was designed to diminish CP spermatotoxicity. A combination of three nutraceutical materials, 250 mg Spirulina platensis powder (SP), 25 mg Tribulus terrestris L. extract (TT), and 100 mg fish oil (FO) were formulated in self-nanoemulsifying self-n… Show more

“…The histological section of all treated groups with moderate alteration reflected the effect of the nutritional addition of TT and vitamin E on the function and activity of the testes. This is due to the role of the herb TT and vitamin E in the improvement of fertility, as indicated by previous researchers (8,9).…”

“…Additionally, SNES formulation from olive, pomegranate, and grape seed oil had IC50 values of 0.49%, 0.18%, and 0.8%, respectively. The development of SNEDDS from spirulina powder and combination of spirulina powder, fish oil, and Tribulus terrestis yielded IC50 values of 1606 and 1122 mg/ml [36][37][38].…”

“…The average particle size accompanied by the polydispersity index (PDI) and zeta potential were evaluated by Zetasizer (Malvern Instruments Ltd, Malvern, UK). Samples were appropriately diluted with deionized water and all values were reported as the mean value ± standard deviation (SD) of three different measurements [1].…”
