Phytochemical composition and antimicrobial, and anti-quorum sensing activities of Punica granatum L. methanolic extract

Abstract: Background and Objectives: In this work, our aims were to investigate the antimicrobial resistance, and antiquorum sensing activities of Punica granatum L. methanolic extract. Materials and Methods: Antibacterial and antifungal activities were performed against thirteen bacteria and five fungal pathogens. Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography was used to identify the polyphenolic extract. The inhibition of pyocyanin production, proteolytic and elastolytic activity and swarming motility in Pseudomo… Show more

“…Flavonoids, especially quercetin, are also able to interfere in the pathways involved in quorum sensing, thereby preventing bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. A recent study determined that quercetin interferes with the functioning of proteins involved in glycolytic pathways, protein folding, and protein elongation, while Manner et al, reported that quercetin inhibited the production of violacein pigment, an indicator of bacterial QS in Chromobacterium violaceum [ 46 , 47 ].…”
