Phytochemical Composition, Antifungal and Antioxidant Activity of Duguetia furfuracea A. St.‐Hill

Abstract: Background. Duguetia furfuracea is popular plant used in popular medicine. Hypothesis/Purpose. This claim evaluated the phytochemical composition of the hydroethanolic extract (HEDF), fractions of Duguetia furfuracea, and antioxidant and antifungal activity. Methods. The chemical profile was carried out by HPLC-DAD. The total phenolic contents and flavonoid components were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminium chloride reaction. The antioxidant activity was measured by scavenging of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl… Show more

“…These values are similar to those reported for pristimerin [ 50 ], with MICs ranging from 7.81 to 250 mg/L, and for the hexane extract of Annona glabra [ 56 ], which inhibited the growth of C. albicans at a concentration of 100 μg.mL -1 . The present study also showed that liriodenine has lower MIC values than the methanol and ethyl acetate extracts of Duguetia furfuracea against C. albicans and C. krusei , with MICs ≥ 1024 μg.mL -1 , although acting against C. tropicalis [ 57 ]. Liriodenine was also more active than FAMEs of Annona cornifolia , which exhibited MICs of 500 μg.mL -1 or higher against C. albicans and C .…”

“…However, few chemical data are available on the Duguetia genus, despite its high number of species (Almeida et al, 2012). (Pinho et al, 2016;Sant os et al, 2018).…”

“…Flavonoids have the ability to induce apoptosis and block the cell cycle by demolishing the structure of the spindle fiber (Pumiputavon et al, 2017). Quercetin was demonstrated to be present in methanolic extract from D. furfuracea (Pinho et a., 2016), and this flavonoid can promote the proapoptotic gene Bax and activat e caspase pathways (Pumiputavon et al, 2017).…”
