Phytochemical composition, total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of Anadara granosa (Linnaeus, 1758) collected from the east coast of South Sumatra, Indonesia

Abstract: Anadara granosa is a species of the class bivalve commonly found on the east coast of South Sumatra as a fishery commodity. This species has not been widely studied as a source of new bioactive compounds that have antioxidant abilities. This study aims to analyze the antioxidant ability of A. granosa against DPPH radicals and its phytochemical profile qualitatively. Samples were taken at the fishing port of Sungsang Village, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Furthermore, the samples were extracted using ethanol as a s… Show more

“…Three species of mangrove leaves were taken as much as 500 g (dry weight) using an analytical scale (NIMBUS NBL254), which were mashed and macerated with 2 L of methanol (1:4 b/v) for 2 x 24 h. According to, 24 the methanol solvent was reported to be able to extract polyphenols and flavonoids at higher levels than other solvents. In line with research, 25 polar solvents tend to be able to extract more bioactive compounds. The success and efficiency of the method were determined by the type of solvent chosen.…”

“…Moreover, very alkaline or acidic pH conditions will be dangerous because they can cause metabolic and respiratory disorders (Pedapoli and Ramudu, 2014;Paran et al, 2022). Salinity is an essential factor for the spread of organisms in the sea, and oxygen is a limiting factor in determining the presence of organisms in the water (Nugroho et al, 2023). The variety of dissolved oxygen can be affected by waste materials or pollutants in the water.…”

“…Based on geographic location, the sampling location was located in the intertidal area with coordinate positions S 2.3715833 and E 104.8041083 and had a fairly busy domestic port activity (Figure 1). This area has thick mud with fertile mangrove habitat and another benthic organism (4,16,17). This area is also influenced by the dynamics of water quality parameters, where it is a mixing area between a large mass of fresh water from the Banyuasin River and a mass of salt water from the Bangka Strait, forming a very large brackish area (18)(19)(20).…”
