Phytochemical Profiles and Antioxidant Activity of Rehmannia glutinosa from Different Production Locations

Abstract: The chemical components and antioxidant activity of 16 Rehmannia glutinosa samples were investigated to reveal the high‐quality raw resource for pharmaceutical products. 22 main chemical components were detected with significant content differences (P<0.05). The contents of 14 substances reached the maximum in S1 sample such as catalpol (6.74 mg g−1), rehmaionoside A (1.93 mg g−1) and rehmannioside D (5.13 mg g−1). However, the content distribution of the other eight substances had no obvious change regulat… Show more

“…The DPPH IC 50 value is a sample concentration, at which DPPH is scavenged by 50 %, and a lower IC 50 value represents a stronger DPPH radical scavenging activity. The method of decolorization of free radical ABTS + was performed as expressed previously [33,34] . The results were expressed as micromoles of Trolox equivalents (TE) per 1 g of dry weight (μmol TE g −1 ).…”

“…This assay based on the oxidation reduction reaction as the same as DPPH assay is to evaluate the antioxidant activity by measuring the reduction rate of 2,29-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS * + ). [18,21] It is obvious that the scavenging rate of ABTS * + increased with an increase in the concentration and found to be maximum at the highest concentration (Figure 2). In addition, ABTS * + scavenging activity of test samples at different maturity stages represented significant differences (P < 0.05) (Table 2).…”

“…[19] A lower EC 50 value can represent a stronger DPPH * scavenging activity. [20,21] In our study, the EC 50 value calculated by GraphPad Prism based on the raw data was used for a more intuitive comparison of the antioxidant activity of T. indicum at different maturity stages. For the samples at different maturity stages, the EC 50 values ranged from 1.13 mg/mL to 2.62 mg/mL, which further demonstrated antioxidant activity of the test samples had the significant differences (P < 0.05) (Table 2).…”
