Phytochemical screening, antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer activity of Coffee parasite acetone extract (Loranthus ferrugineus Roxb)

Abstract: This study aimed to perform a phytochemical screening and test the antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities of acetone extracts of the Coffee parasite (Loranthus ferrugineus Roxb). A phytochemical screen was performed using specific reagents. Antimicrobial testing was performed using the paper disc diffusion method. The antioxidant activity test used the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. Anticancer activity test against HeLa and A549 cells based on the 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-D… Show more

“…Test 3 eluents to determine the level of purity of the compounds. The results of the 3 eluent tests that have been carried out are then compared with the standard quercetin standard to see the similarity of the stain spots using TLC (Juwitaningsih et al, 2022). The similarity of stain spot and time value retention in…”

“…On the other side, the morphology of living cells can be seen in that the cell nucleus shines brilliantly and the membrane boundaries with the media are visible. Thus extract C.sappan L can be used as an alternative ingredient for the prevention or reduction of risk affected by cancer [20,21,22]. Secondary metabolites are compounds that are not directly involved in organisms' growth, development, or reproduction.…”

“…The total flavonoid content in the ethyl acetate extract and methanol extract were 8.678 mg QE/g and 5.296 mg QE/g, respectively (Table 1). The highest total flavonoid content in the ethyl acetate extract can be attributed to the polarity character of the flavonoids (Wikanta et al 2012;Simorangkir et al 2019;Juwitaningsih et al 2022). Flavonoids with polar properties are usually flavonoid glycoside compounds, while the aglycone forms are less polar, such as isoflavones and flavonones (Andersen & Markham, 2006;Wang et al 2018).…”
