Phytochemical studies and Antimicrobial Activity on the leaves ofAntigonon leptopusandEcbolium viridae

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the in vitro Antibacterial activity of Antigonon leptopus and Ecbolium viridae methanol, ethanol, and acetone leaf extracts for against selected bacterial strains respectively. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaf crude extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, carbohydrates, and saponins. The evaluation of leaf powder was supported by physico-chemical analysis. The antibacterial activities of the leaf of E.viride and Antigonon leptopus in successive different solvents were tested against gram +ve (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes) and gram -ve (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) Antibacterial activity of those crude extracts are determined by using agar well diffusion method and the zone of inhibition of microorganisms was measured in mm.
