The works of Manios et al (1989) and Rajbanshi and lnubushi (1998) have also confirmed the importance of the use of the seed germination bioassay in determining the phytotoxicity of plant residue compost together with chemical and biochemical characteristics of the compost. In the present report, we evaluated the use of the seed germination test as an index of biomaturity of grass straw and leaf mix (GL) compost and we tried to determine the stabilization of biochemical parameters such as microbial biomass (total extractable lipid phosphates; TELP) and CO 2 evolution rate (CER), and also other chemical characteristics in the process of small-scale in-vessel composting.…”
