Pickering Emulsion Polymerized Polyaniline/Zinc-ferrite Composite Particles and Their Dual Electrorheological and Magnetorheological Responses

Abstract: A functional raspberry-like core–shell composite particle consisting of a conducting polyaniline (PANI) core and magnetic zinc ferrite shell is synthesized by Pickering emulsion polymerization. The morphology and chemical structure of the PANI/zinc-ferrite composite are evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. An electrorheological/magnetorheological fluid consisting of the PANI/zinc-ferrite composite dispersed in silicone oil wit… Show more

“…Spinel ferrites (M × Fe 3−× O 4 ), such as MgFe 2 O 4 , MnFe 2 O 4 , CoFe 2 O 4 , NiFe 2 O 4 , and ZnFe 2 O 4 have also been combined with polymers as shown in Figure 4 . Kim et al [ 69 ] prepared raspberry-like core-shell composite particles, which comprised a PANI core and a zinc ferrite shell, through polymerization by the Pickering emulsion technique. Table 1 presents a list of magnetic polymer composites.…”

“…27,28 Conductive or semi-conductive materials as different polymers or composite materials (e.g., carbon nanotubes, 29,30 graphene and its derivates, [31][32][33][34] PANI granular particulates and nanofibers or blends, etc.) [35][36][37] were reported in the bibliography as stabilizer of Pickering emulsions. However, to the best of our knowledge, electroactive/conducting PANI nanoparticles have not been employed.…”

“…When the electric field is cancelled, the mutual attraction between the particles will disappear instantaneously, the polarization will also disappear at the same time, the chain structure will be destroyed, and the state of chaotic distribution will reappear. [4][5][6] Therefore, more and more scientists begin to study ERF, and to find more and more ideal electrical responsive intelligent materials. With the rapid development of ERFs , various types of materials have been used by researchers as electrorheological (ER) materials, such as common inorganic or organic composite materials, conductive polymers, and other materials.…”
