Pigments based on Cr and Sb doped TiO 2 prepared by microemulsion-mediated solvothermal synthesis for inkjet printing on ceramics

Abstract: Nanoparticles of the ceramic pigment with composition Ti 0.97 Cr 0.015 Sb 0.015 O 2 were prepared by microemulsion-mediated solvothermal method at 180 ºC. Anatase or rutile single phase was obtained depending on the synthesis conditions. Scanning electron microscope analysis showed the formation of nanospheres with particle size around 600 nm. The anatase to rutile transformation temperature was determined by Raman spectroscopy. The evolution of the colour was studied, and it was related with the polymorphic t… Show more

“…69) [430,431]. First-principle calculations showed the appearance of new energy levels in the band gap, which is in agreement with the experimentally observed decrease of apparent band gap and coloration of TiO 2 [432,433]. Based on the enhanced absorption in the visible spectrum thus one may expect that transition metal doped TiO 2 materials in general have better photocatalytic activity than the corresponding pristine TiO 2 .…”

“…Thus, Jovani et al prepared Cr 0.015 Sb 0.0015 Ti 0.97 O 2 by a microemulsion-mediated solvothermal via and tested its potential use for inkjet printing on ceramics (10) Taking into account both the current basic knowledge on the Cr-and Sb-codoped TiO 2 ceramic pigmenting system and the actual industrial need of availability of nanopigments, there are still some issues in the Cr,Sb-codoped TiO 2 nano-pigments subject that need further research. Thus, it seems interesting to search the feasibility of using as solvent relatively long hydrocarbon chain polyols and the structural and spectroscopic properties of the prepared nano-pigments in a wide range of compositions, i. e. with greater dopant loads, as well as the dependence of the chromatic coordinates on both the content of dopants and the crystallite size of the nanoparticles.…”
