“…Initial collagen changes are seen in the lower part of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, but later affect the whole of the dermis (Fig. 1); they include eosinophilia of the collagen and broadening of the collagen bundles with diminished interbundle spaces 1,40–44 . The progression of the disease is heralded by the disappearance of inflammatory changes, replaced subsequently by hyalinized connective tissue.…”

“…1); they include eosinophilia of the collagen and broadening of the collagen bundles with diminished interbundle spaces. 1,[40][41][42][43][44] The progression of the disease is heralded by the disappearance of inflammatory changes, replaced subsequently by hyalinized connective tissue. Sebaceous glands and hair structure are completely absent, whereas atrophic sweat glands in reduced numbers may be located in the midst of sclerotic collagen bundles in the dermis instead of in their usual position.…”

“…As the collagenous material accumulates, dermal appendages and subcutaneous fat are progressively lost 2 . IgM and C3 are found at the basement membrane and in dermal blood vessels, particularly in more extensive and deeper lesions 3 with the changes seen being analogous to those in the skin in systemic sclerosis.…”

“…Plasma cell panniculitis (PCP) is a rare histopathological subtype of morphea profunda which presents as indurated plaque and usually affects the trunk or extremities. It was first described in 1989, and only five cases have been reported in the literature 1–3 . Its histological characteristics include numerous inflammatory cell infiltrates (predominantly of mature plasma cells and a few lymphocytes) from the papillary dermis to the subcutaneous fat, small nodular aggregates within fat lobules, thick collagen bundles, and absence of vasculitis.…”
