Plasma lipids and coagulation in patients with arteriosclerotic dementia

Abstract: SYNOPSIS Plasma lipids and lipoproteins, glucose, uric acid, and haemocoagulative parameters were studied in a group of 22 elderly hospitalized patients with arteriosclerotic dementia, and compared with those of a control group of a similar age. No significant differences were found in lipids. lipoproteins, glucose, or uric acid but the fibrinogen level was significantly raised in the group with arteriosclerotic dementia. A comparison of the metabolic parameters of the dementia patients with those of a group o… Show more

“…No differences were observed in activated partial thromboplastin time, 28,30 30,31 thrombin-antithrombin complex, 30,31 PAI-1, 30-34 t-PA, 30,31,33 activated protein C activity, 30,31 and platelet counts 28,35 between VD and controls. An increase in levels of fibrinogen (►Fig.…”

“…Andreoli et al did not observe differences in prothrombin time (PT) between VD patients and controls. 28 Similarly, Alonso et al 29 did not observe differences in plasminogen activator urokinase-type (u-PA) comparing VD patients with controls. Thirteen analytes were evaluated by more than one study, and the results together are given in ►Table 2.…”
