Plasticisation of Polyvinyl Chloride Using Bis-Adducts of Methylene Dioxolanes with Ethane Dithiol

Abstract

Bis-adducts of 2-substituted 4-methylene-1,3-dioxolanes with ethane dithiol were synthesised and their effectiveness as plasticisers for PVC was studied. The chemical composition of the synthesised sulphurcontaining ketoesters was determined. The migration of the plasticisers into isooctane/toluene, water, sulphanol solution and circulating air was studied. The properties of PVC composites plasticised using these adducts were investigated, including mechanical properties, frost resistance, critical dissolution temperature, water absorption, volatile content, thermal stability, and fungal resistance. 6 refs.
